Open/close windows with the key fob

Button

COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK5 · LOCKS & WINDOWS

Hold unlock on the remote to open the windows and hold lock to close them (the sunroof can only be closed this way).

Applies to
VW Golf Mk5 (1K: Golf, Rabbit, GTI, R32), 2006-2009 US / 2004-2009 elsewhere.

Not confirmed for
Jetta Mk5 (option names match, but the byte positions aren't confirmed), 2010 Jetta, Golf Plus, Audi A3 8P

Module
46 Central Convenience (Comfort System). Ross-Tech lists label file 1K0-959-433-46.lbl for the 1K comfort module.

Method
Long coding + Adaptation

1 · Before you start

Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. Copy the whole long coding string of each module you change, and write down or screenshot each adaptation value before you change it.

2 · VCDS

  1. Write down the current 46 long coding.

  2. Open 46 Central Conv. > Coding - 07 > Long Coding Helper.

  3. Untick 'Comfort function power windows/sunroof via remote control inactive'.

  4. Tick 'Comfort opening power windows via remote control active' and 'Comfort closing power windows via remote control active'.

  5. If the car has a sunroof, tick 'Closing sunroof via remote control active'.

  6. Optional: tick 'Comfort Function automatic Closing' so a short hold of lock finishes closing the windows. vag-coding.net places it at Byte 6 Bit 6 (Golf 5 only).

  7. Save the coding. Then open Adaptation - 10, channel 017 'Comfort Function', and make sure it is 1 (ON).

  8. Test: hold unlock to open the windows, hold lock to close them.

Notes

Ross-Tech warns that not every module, firmware or equipment level supports every tweak. Use the option labels rather than byte numbers, because the byte positions come from only one source.
