Windows and sunroof close when it rains

Button

COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK5 · LOCKS & WINDOWS

When the car is locked and the rain sensor detects rain, the windows and sunroof close by themselves.

Applies to
VW Golf Mk5 (1K: Golf, Rabbit, GTI, R32), 2006-2009 US / 2004-2009 elsewhere, with a factory rain/light sensor.

Not confirmed for
Jetta Mk5 (option names match, but the byte positions aren't confirmed), 2010 Jetta, Golf Plus, Audi A3 8P

Module
46 Central Convenience + 09 Central Electronics (Rain/Light Sensor sub-system). Ross-Tech lists Wiper and Rain/Light Sensor as sub-systems of the 1K 09 Central Electronics. vag-coding.net selects sub-system '2' in the 09 Long Coding Helper.

Method
Long coding

Requires
Factory rain/light sensor (RLS). vag-coding.net says the car must be locked with the remote.

1 · Before you start

Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. Copy the whole long coding string of 46 Central Convenience + 09 Central Electronics (Rain/Light Sensor sub-system) and keep it somewhere safe.

2 · VCDS

  1. Open 46 Central Conv. > Coding - 07 > Long Coding Helper. Tick 'Rain Closing' (1 = permanent) and leave 'Comfort Closing via Rain Light Sensor (Rain Closing) inactive' unticked. vag-coding.net (Golf 5) shows both in Byte 9 (Bit 1 and Bit 2). Save.

  2. Open 09 Cent. Elect. > Coding - 07 > Long Coding Helper. Choose the RLS sub-system from the drop-down and tick 'Rain Closing active'. vag-coding.net (Golf 5) shows it as sub-system 2, Byte 0 Bit 2. Save.

  3. To test (Ross-Tech tips): lock the car with all doors and lids shut, wait 10 minutes, spray a little water on the sensor, and try the wiper stalk both in OFF and in Auto/Intermittent.

Notes

Ross-Tech says this may not be supported on all vehicles and that feedback varies a lot.
