Remove LED license plate light error

Button

COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK6 · LIGHTING

Turns off the cold bulb-out check for the license plate lights so LED plate bulbs don't trigger a warning.

Applies to
VW Golf / GTI / Golf R Mk6 (5K), 2010 on.

Not confirmed for
Jetta sedan/GLI 2011-2018 (different body module), Jetta SportWagen, Tiguan, Eos, CC

Module
09 Central Electronics (BCM). BCM PQ35 (5K0 937 08x), label file 1K0-937-08x-09.clb.

Method
Long coding

1 · Before you start

Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. Copy the whole long coding string of 09 Central Electronics (BCM) and keep it somewhere safe.

2 · VCDS

  1. Select 09 Central Electronics > Coding - 07 > Long Coding Helper.

  2. Byte 23, Bit 6: untick 'Lamp Monitoring (Cold) License Plate Lamps active'.

  3. Leave the other Byte 23 bits alone. For example, Bit 5 is 'Load Management active'.

What this changes

Switches off an existing check: the cold bulb-out test for the plate lamps. You won't get a warning if a plate lamp fails. The output itself is unchanged.

Notes

The label file also has Byte 17 Bit 7 'License Plate Light w/o Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) [LED Light]'. No source documents using it on the Golf 6. Source coverage: vag-coding.net (Golf 6 5K); vagcode.info label decodes (2014 Golf Cabrio 5K0 937 086 Q and 2017 Jetta 5K0 937 087 AJ, label evidence only).
