Needle sweep on startup
COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK6 · GAUGE CLUSTER
The gauge needles sweep to full scale and back when the ignition is switched on, on clusters that support it.
Applies to
VW Golf / GTI / Golf R Mk6 (5K), 2010 on, with a cluster that has the Staging setting.
Not confirmed for
Jetta sedan/GLI 2011-2018 (different body module), Jetta SportWagen, Tiguan, Eos, CC
Module
17 Instruments (instrument cluster). Not every cluster supports it (Ross-Tech, vag-coding.net). SVicksTC says it doesn't work on 'G clusters'. On the OBDeleven forum, an owner of cluster 5K0 920 871 A got 'function not available' for 'indicator_celebration'.
Method
Adaptation
Requires
A cluster that supports the 'Staging' channel.
1 · Before you start
Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. In 17 Instruments (instrument cluster), write down or screenshot the current value of every setting before you change it.
2 · VCDS
Select 17 Instruments > Adaptation - 10.
Choose the channel 'Staging'. If it isn't listed, vag-coding.net says to try 'indicator_celebration' (only one source gives this fallback).
Set the new value to 'On' or 'active' (the wording depends on the cluster) and save.
If neither channel nor an 'active/On' value is offered, the cluster doesn't support it.
Notes
Source coverage: Ross-Tech 5K Tweaks covers 'VW Golf/Golf Plus (5K/52/AJ) 2010+ and VW Jetta Sedan (5K/AJ) MY2010 only'. Ross-Tech Jetta (16/AJ) Tweaks covers 'Jetta (16/AJ) MY2011+ and Beetle (5C) with BCM25/PQ25' and gives the same Staging step. vag-coding.net covers Golf 6 (5K) with no years. The SVicksTC PDF is a Mk6 GTI list with no year range.
