Reset the oil service reminder
COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK6 · SERVICE
Clears the oil-change (ESI) service reminder in the instrument cluster.
Applies to
VW Golf / GTI / Golf R Mk6 (5K), 2010 on.
Not confirmed for
Jetta sedan/GLI 2011-2018 (different body module), Jetta SportWagen, Tiguan, Eos, CC
Module
17 Instruments (instrument cluster). Ross-Tech: many 2010+ VWs use 'newest protocol' clusters that 'do not support conventional Adaptation Channels' and need a manual connection. Most NAR UDS/ODX clusters also have a service reset in the MFA menu.
Method
Adaptation
1 · Before you start
Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. In 17 Instruments (instrument cluster), write down or screenshot the current value of every setting before you change it.
2 · VCDS
Connect manually: Select 17 Instruments > Adaptation - 10. Ross-Tech says these clusters need a manual connection rather than the old SRI routine.
Choose 'ESI: Resetting ESI', set it to Reset, then Do It!
Cycle the key if the reminder doesn't clear.
Only if an inspection (not just an oil change) is due on a car with distance/time inspections: Ross-Tech also sets 'FIX: Distance covered since last mileage-dependent inspection' and 'FIX: Time since last time-dependent inspection' to 0.
Notes
Ross-Tech: after a reset the display may show '---' until it recalibrates, about 300 mi / 500 km (some TDIs up to 1,000 mi / 1,600 km). If adaptation reports the cluster as 'Uninitialized', let VCDS write default WSC/Importer/Equipment numbers. Source coverage: all VCDS details come from Ross-Tech pages (5K Tweaks, 5K Instrument Cluster, SRI Reset Procedure).
