Needle sweep on startup

Button

COMMUNITY-SOURCED · MK7 · GAUGE CLUSTER

Makes the cluster needles sweep to maximum and back when the car is started.

Applies to
VW Golf Mk7 (5G), including the GTI. Sources show it on a 2015 US GTI and a 2019 Golf 7.5.

Not confirmed for
Golf SportWagen/Alltrack, Jetta (any year), Audi A3/S3 8V, Tiguan and other MQB cars

Module
17 Instruments (instrument cluster). No part numbers given. vag-coding.net says it is compatible with the Golf 7.5 Virtual Cockpit (Active Info Display). ECS Tuning and the OBDeleven log do not state the cluster type.

Method
Long coding

1 · Before you start

Run a full Auto-Scan and save it. Copy the whole long coding string of 17 Instruments (instrument cluster) and keep it somewhere safe.

2 · VCDS

  1. Select 17 Instruments

  2. Coding - 07, then Long Coding Helper

  3. Byte 1: tick Bit 0 (label on the source: 'Gauge Test/Needle Sweep (Stading) active'). Only tick it if your Long Coding Helper shows a needle sweep / staging label for that bit

  4. Close the helper and save the coding (Do It!)

  5. Switch the ignition off and on again to check

Notes

Removed the draft note about an 'Adaptation > Staging' alternative because no source supports it.
